Lesson 5.2: Guided Inquiry Project - Week 1 Research Framework

Research & Vision Development for Society Design

📚 Week 1: Research & Vision Phase

Today's Focus: Launch Group Research

Groups begin their 5-week journey by establishing collaboration protocols, researching existing societies, and developing their initial vision using indigenous principles.

1. Group Formation & Protocols (15 mins)

Use the collaboration framework to establish group protocols based on indigenous values: shared decision-making, collective responsibility, and cultural respect. Assign rotating roles and create group agreements.

2. Research Existing Societies (25 mins)

Groups research 2-3 existing societies (indigenous, contemporary, historical) to identify strengths, challenges, and governance approaches. Focus on how different societies address collective wellbeing.

3. Vision Development (25 mins)

Using research insights, groups begin developing their society's foundational vision. Must incorporate: whakapapa (relationships), kaitiakitanga (guardianship), collective decision-making, and cultural respect.

4. Week 2 Planning (10 mins)

Groups plan their system design approach for next week and identify specific research needs. Begin using the interactive design tool to organize their ideas.

🛠️ Continue with Interactive Design Tool

Groups should continue their work using the comprehensive digital society design tool throughout the week.
