Awa Moderation Notes & Pitfalls
Consistency Checks
- Check alignment with poster rubric and oral rubric.
- Ensure at least one data point or observation is present in both poster and speech.
- Verify kupu Māori use (spelling, macrons where appropriate).
- CTA must be explicit and realistic for the context (school/home/community).
Common Pitfalls
- Posters overcrowded with text; no clear call-to-action.
- Data mentioned without explaining why it matters.
- Using generic “save the river” messages without local context.
- Inconsistent safety messaging (e.g., suggesting entering water).
Moderation Tips
- Sample across groups: at least 1 emerging, 1 meeting, 1 exceeding for each task.
- Annotate why each sample meets the rubric level; keep photo/PDF copies.
- Note cultural responsiveness: acknowledgement of local iwi/hapū, tikanga in actions.
- Capture any adult/whānau feedback as qualitative evidence.
