Whānau Pānui · Diphthong Detective Week

English

Kia ora whānau,

This week our ākonga are exploring vowel teams that make the sounds /ow/ (ou, ow) and /oi/ (oi, oy). We call this the “Diphthong Detective” week because students hunt for these patterns in everything they read.

Thank you for supporting regular reading at home. Every five-minute burst helps build confidence and fluency.

Te Reo Māori

Kia ora e te whānau,

I tēnei wiki ka tirohia e ā tātou tamariki ngā pūwairua oro /ow/ (ou, ow) me te /oi/ (oi, oy). Ka kīia tēnei ko te wiki “Kimi Pūwairua” nā te mea ka rapu ngā ākonga i ngā tauira nei i roto i ngā kupu katoa e pānuihia ana e rātou.

Ngā mihi mō tō tautoko i te pānui a tō tamaiti. Mā te iti, mā te rahi ka whakatupu te māia me te rere o te kupu.

Quick Home Challenge

Find five objects around the whare that include the sounds /ow/ or /oi/ (examples: towels, coins, soy, kowhai). Write them down or take photos, then bring them to share with the class on Friday.
