Kia ora whānau,

This week our ākonga are exploring vowel teams that make the sounds /ow/ (ou, ow) and /oi/ (oi, oy). We call this the “Diphthong Detective” week because students hunt for these patterns in everything they read.

Read the decodable story “Out on the Bay” together (included in the pack). Ask your child to highlight the vowel teams.
Play Sound Safari: take turns saying a word with /ow/ or /oi/ – the first person to spot the pattern wins a point.
Record a short audio message of your child reading one paragraph with expression. Upload it to Seesaw or return the device to class.
