Te Haumarutanga Ipurangi β€” Staying Safe Online

🌐 The Online World

The internet is an amazing tool for learning, connecting, and creating. But just like the real world, we need to stay safe online. Following simple rules helps protect you and others!

βœ… Do's and ❌ Don'ts

βœ… Keep Personal Info Private

Never share your full name, address, school, or phone number

βœ… Tell a Trusted Adult

If something makes you uncomfortable, tell a parent or teacher

❌ Don't Meet Strangers

Never meet someone you only know online

❌ Don't Share Passwords

Keep passwords secret (except from parents)

🧠 Be SMART Online

The SMART Rules
  • Safe β€” Keep personal info private
  • Meet β€” Never meet online strangers alone
  • Accept β€” Don't accept messages from strangers
  • Reliable β€” Not everything online is true
  • Tell β€” Tell an adult if worried

🚫 Cyberbullying

What is Cyberbullying?

Using technology to hurt, embarrass, or threaten someone. This includes:

  • Mean messages or comments
  • Sharing embarrassing photos
  • Spreading rumours online
  • Excluding someone on purpose

If you see it: Don't respond, save evidence, and tell an adult.

πŸ‘£ Your Digital Footprint

Think Before You Post

Everything you post online can be saved, shared, and seen by others β€” even years later!

  • Would you be happy if your parents saw this?
  • Would you be proud of this in 5 years?
  • Could this hurt someone's feelings?

✏️ Activities

Safe or Unsafe?

Mark Safe (S) or Unsafe (U):

  1. ___ Telling someone online your school name
  2. ___ Playing a game with friends you know
  3. ___ Clicking a link from a stranger
  4. ___ Telling a parent about a scary message

What would you do if someone online asked for your address?
